1. First we find an image. I have chosen a rather unflattering picture of Alexis Bledel.

2. Using the healing brush we eliminate all of the blotchy areas of her complexion. Just have a general tidy up. What I am left with is this.

I know, she is looking better already.

3. Now duplicate the layer. On the new layer go to Filter > Noise > Dust & Scratches. Set the radius to 3, threshold 0 and click ok. I know it looks a little blurry, and it is about to get even more blurry. Now go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Set the radius to 2.0 pixels and click ok. Now the final touch, go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise. Set the amount to 0.9 and distribution to unison. I know it looks messy but bear with me. Now add a new mask layer to the blurred layer. To do this go to Layer > Add Layer Mask > Hide All. Now make sure you click on the layer mask. Select a round paintbrush, making sure that you have the colour set to white. Go over the areas of the face where the skin needs to be smoothed out, ie: forehead, chin, cheeks etc. By painting over these areas you will reveal the smoother ‘blurry’ skin. I also applied this method to airbrush her top. After completing the whole process you should end up with something like this.

4. Now the final touches need to be made. I painted the background to clean up the scratches. Brightened her eyes slightly and lightened her hair a little.
